, motorists should expect lane and shoulder closures in the week ahead. The Arizona Department of Transportation urges motorists to slow down, be prepared to merge into the open lane and use caution around construction personnel and equipment while the following lane and shoulder closures are in place:Northbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane at Cornville Road daily from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Monday morning , May 16, to Thursday afternoon, May 19.
The southbound I-17 right shoulder will be closed in half-mile increments from the I-40 junction to J.W. Powell Boulevard daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning Monday morning, May 16, to Thursday evening, May 19, and from 6 a.m. to noon Friday, May 20. Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane from the McGuireville Rest Area to Arena del Loma Road daily from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Monday morning, May 16, to Thursday afternoon, May 19.Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane 5 miles north of the State Route 169 junction daily from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Monday morning, May 16, to Thursday afternoon, May 19.The southbound I-17 left shoulder near New River Road will be closed daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
ADOT is installing high-speed fiber optic infrastructure along 67 miles of I-17 between the McGuireville Rest Area and Anthem Way. Work is expected to continue through mid-2022, and will proceed along I-17 in segments of several miles per week. Crews are installing conduit and pull-box systems, fiber optic cables, node buildings and load centers.
