Encinitas has gotten the go-ahead from geologists to start repair work on the trail

Encinitas has received the go-ahead from geologists to start repairs on the landslide-plagued Beacon’s Beach trail, the city manager said. “We hope to have it reopened by Memorial Day,” City Manager Pamela Antil told the City Council on Wednesday. City employees have started seeking construction bids, she said. Depending on the prices of those estimates, the item might need to come before the council for its approval in April, Antil said.

” Though the path has its structural challenges, it is a beloved Encinitas landmark that’s been popular with residents and the region’s surfing community for decades. Balancing this status with the landslides has proved challenging. Over the years, the city has considered multiple, ultimately unsuccessful, proposals to preserve the beach access. In 2018, the city’s Planning Commission rejected two proposals that called for replacing the path with a staircase.
