Landman stars Billy Bob Thornton and Christian Wallace discuss the impact of Andy Garcia's cameo as cartel boss Gallino on the show's future. They tease a tense working relationship between Tommy and Gallino, setting the stage for season 2.

Warning: This post contains spoilers for the Landman season 1 finale. Landman star Billy Bob Thornton and co-creator Christian Wallace open up about the season 1 finale's big cameo and how it sets up season 2. The hit drama series debuted on Paramount+ in November 2024 and stars Thornton as Tommy Norris. He fronts Landman 's all-star cast that also includes Ali Larter, Jon Hamm, and Demi Moore.

In the Landman season 1 finale, Oscar-nominated star Andy Garcia cameod as cartel boss Gallino, who arrives after his men kidnap Tommy. In an unexpected twist, the mobster saves Tommy from torture and proposes an alliance with Tommy as his partner. In an interview with Variety, Thornton and Wallace discuss how Garcia's appearance in the season 1 finale sets the stage for a change of direction for the show. Thornton revealed his delight at working with his long-time friend, while Wallace described the impending; check out their full comments below: Thornton: Andy is such a great guy and great actor, and when we did those scenes at the end of the last episode, it felt so good, because we kind of had us two old veterans going head to head. It was quite an experience, and I have to say every moment of it felt real. Tommy’s dealing with someone now who is really smart. The other guys were hired to work for him, but now Tommy’s talking to the man himself. There are advantages and disadvantages to that. Since he is so smart, who knows what Tommy is going to get tricked into? Wallace: The cartel and the oil industry are kind of these odd neighbors living side by side in West Texas. Now Andy’s character is thinking he is going to make a change and utilize that proximity in a way that could benefit him. Thornton: What’s the saying? Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Tommy figures if he semi-befriends this guy, maybe they can actually work this out, because it is going to happen one way or another. What These Comments Mean For Landman's Future Season 2 Could Set Up A Tense Working Relationship Wallace and Thornton's comments suggest the direction that Landman season 2 could take, if and when it is finally renewed by Paramount+. Garcia's cameo has certainly set up the show for an intriguing future going forward, and the duo's comments would imply that future seasons of the show are planned and set to heavily feature Gallino. Tommy's uneasy alliance sees him getting into bed with the cartels, which is bound to lead to many potential problems further down the line. One thing is for sure, Tommy's life is about to get very complicated, and very dangerous. The Landman season 1 finale puts Tommy through the wringer, both physically and emotionally. Before suffering brutal physical torture at the hands of Gallino's men, he has to experience his long-time friend and confidant Monty's untimely death. This has left Tommy in a lost and vulnerable state, and, while a partnership with Gallino might seem like a solution, at this stage it is more likely simply the least worst option for Tommy moving forward. It especially puts his new position at M-Tex in danger, thus significantly increasing the stakes for season 2's drama. Our Take On Tommy's Landman Future His Life Is About To Get Very Complicated Close One thing is for sure, Tommy's life is about to get very complicated, and very dangerous. Forming an alliance with Gallino at least buys Tommy some time at this stage, but much will depend on what the cartel leader wants out of the arrangement. I can see a scenario in which Tommy finds himself unable (or unwilling) to fulfill certain demands that Gallino might make, and this could lead to conflict between the two men. Season 2 already has a Cooper storyline it could explore, but this Tommy and Gallino pairing will surely take center stage for Landman moving forward
