Paramount+'s Landman has become a streaming sensation, racking up billions of minutes viewed and solidifying its place as a major hit. The series, which stars Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Hamm, Demi Moore and Ali Larter, explores the world of the West Texas oil industry.
Paramount+ has unearthed a genuine hit with its series Landman , which concluded 2024 as the third most-watched streaming original series, accumulating a staggering 9.90 billion minutes viewed, according to a report released today by Luminate. This figure, however, excludes the final two episodes of the season, which premiered on November 17th, effectively terminating data collection for the year.
As the final two episodes aired in early January, the ultimate viewership count would have been even more impressive. The series resonated not only with viewers but also proved to be a significant success for Paramount+. The platform boasts another hit series on the list with Tulsa King, securing fifth place. Landman, starring Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Hamm, Demi Moore, and Ali Larter, immerses audiences in the volatile world of the West Texas oil industry. While the series has received somewhat mixed critical reception, particularly regarding its portrayal of female characters, its immense popularity is undeniable. Although there has been no official confirmation, the renewal for Season 2 appears highly probable at this juncture. The series debuted with a commendable 74% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes, outperforming Sheridan's most renowned series, Yellowstone, which garnered a modest 58% on Rotten Tomatoes during its premiere. Yellowstone, of course, went on to become a bona fide cultural phenomenon, a veritable 'water cooler show' for those who, in the before times, toiled away in offices. Halcyon days indeed. The Landman finale witnessed Thornton's Tommy Norris assuming leadership of MTex Oil following Monty's (Hamm) untimely demise from a heart attack. Torn by the daunting prospect of pursuing the risky oil deal Monty had meticulously established, Tommy ultimately heeded the counsel of Monty's wife, Cami (Moore), to embrace his vision and persevere. However, the situation took a sinister turn when cartel boss Jimenez kidnapped and subjected Tommy to unspeakable torture, only to be rescued at the eleventh hour by the inaugural appearance of Andy Garcia's Gallino, who has clearly positioned himself as a formidable adversary for Tommy in the anticipated Season 2. Meanwhile, as Tommy grappled with his next course of action, his son Cooper (Jacob Lofland) made significant strides in securing oil leases, while his daughter Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) and ex-wife Angela (Larter) injected a dose of levity into the tense episode with a hilarious outing to a strip club with a group of senior citizens. Landman is currently streaming on Paramount+. Stay tuned to Collider for updates on its future
