The leaders of the Valor Club wanted to turn a closed San Antonio golf course and land around into into a community for active military personnel and veterans.
An ambitious plan to turn the shuttered Pecan Valley Golf Club and land around it on San Antonio ’s Southeast Side into a community for military personnel, veterans and their families has hit another roadblock. A court-appointed receiver for a fund that loaned money to the company spearheading the project, called the Valor Club , is set to foreclose on about 50 acres, according to court and real estate records.
Stuck in the rough: Southeast Side golf course redevelopment geared toward veterans mired in obstacles But a deal is in the works, said attorney James Griffin, who is representing Valor Club Partners. The company is on the cusp of signing an agreement to avoid foreclosure. Long planned The project has been in the works since soon after the Pecan Valley Golf Club closed in 2012. Veterans community planned on Southeast Side raises concerns Former City Councilwoman Leticia Ozuna pushed to rezone the property to keep it as a golf course but later worked out a compromise with Foresight to down-zone a portion and put limits on density and potential uses. Neighbors wanted the entire course preserved, though. The City Council in 2012 approved rezoning to keep about 100 acres of green space and nine holes for use by disabled veterans.
