Wholesome Lancashire village with a wonderful barn restaurant perfect for a new year trip
January can be a bleak month, with the Christmas decorations packed away for another year, the last drop of fizz sipped and the final turkey sandwich consumed. And then it is back to work, school and avoiding looking at your bank balance.
And one of the brilliant features of the village, of which there are many, is the huge converted Alpine lodge-like barn which is quite frankly, a giant box of tricks, ideal for a pleasing trip to banish those January blues. The Barn At Scorton's spacious arch-roofed dining room is bustling with miss-matched benches, antique tables and chairs, colourful artwork adorning the walls, with familiar smells of traditional and hearty food being served wafting past your nose as you enter.
If the weather is being kind enough during your visit, sit outside in the beautifully-landscaped gardens, admire the water feature and have a wander of the grounds, where you'll stumble across the cute dog-friendly summer pavilion, which is a cosy spot in winter, too.
