Burnley cleaner had three month sexual affair with vulnerable patient then falsely accused him of rape
A hospital cleaner from Lancashire who had an illicit relationship with a vulnerable mental health patient and falsely accused him of raping her has been jailed.
At first, the victim appeared to be responding well to spending time alone with Lott and before the sexual aspect was discovered, the relationship was encourages even though staff are usually warned against spending time alone with vulnerable patients. Lott was fully aware of his mental state and the rules about being isolated with vulnerable patients, the court heard.
A medical professional who had worked with the victim said while it was not possible to confirm that his rapid deterioration was directly because of the assaults, they can conclude it was an impacting factor. The medical professional told the court: “His mental health has deteriorated in a way that we have not seen previously with other trauma he has seen.”
Phil Holden, defending, explained that the defendant's family had stood by to support her during proceedings and her husband had stayed with her. He also detailed that she has been waiting for this sentence for over 18 months, knowing she would be going to jail, and has no previous convictions.
