A group held a demonstration outside Rep. Lloyd Smucker's office in Lancaster County.
Mennonites from across Lancaster County held a procession and worship service outside U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker's office to call for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war.Mennonite Action organized the event on Wednesday.'For me, this is not political. I don't want my friends in Gaza to be bombed,' Michael George said. 'I just make an appeal to Rep. Smucker to use his heart.'They urged Smucker to 'send aid, not bombs' to Gaza.
Over the last several years, George has helped form Mennonite groups in Gaza and has been talking with groups on the ground.'All three of the groups that we have a relationship with there have been completely destroyed. I have, you know, friends who are sheltering in homes hoping not to be bombed. It's tough for everyone on any side of this conflict. But the friends that I have over there, yeah, I can't not speak out on their behalf or what kind of friend would I be?' he said.
