A Lancaster County man was sentenced to between four and eight years in prison in late June after he was convicted of seriously injuring his passenger in a head-on crash with another vehicle while under the influence of drugs.
Anthony J. Almeida, 23, of New Holland, crashed the car he was driving in the 900 block of North Railroad Avenue in Earl Township on November 26, 2025. Three people were in the car at the time of the crash, one of which ended up being hospitalized with a broken back, pelvis, nose, leg fractures, and a ruptured spleen. A blood draw from Almeida showed he had amphetamines, methamphetamine, and THC compounds in his system.
Almeida told police he was not the driver, but two witnesses who were driving behind him at the time of the crash testified they saw him exit the front seat immediately after. Tuesday began as a normal day for Carlisle dad Matt Estep at the FedEx facility where he works, but it ended in tragedy.
