Girls face more difficulties than boys in every part of the country
Parts of Lancashire are among the toughest places to be a girl in the UK - and our map shows how hard it is where you live.
Girls in Blackpool also have the lowest healthy life expectancy in the UK, and can expect to suffer from a long-term health condition before their 47th birthday. That’s 15 years earlier than the area with the highest healthy life expectancy. Life is not much easier for girls in Blackburn or Lancaster, both among the toughest 5% of places to be a girl. Every part of Lancashire was rated among the 30% toughest places in the UK to be a girl, except Chorley, the best-performing area in our county.
It has also noted “growing misogyny online in the ‘manosphere’”. Plan International’s research shows that only one in 14 girls feel completely safe in public spaces and one in 11 online.
