Teenagers getting drunk in the middle of the afternoon have left residents on a Lanarkshire street too scared to leave their homes for fear of being attacked by the louts.

Lanarkshire residents have been left 'living in fear' by drunken teens causing havoc on their street - even causing one person to relapse after months of sobriety.

A petrified tenant, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “These 15 and 16-year-olds are just going about drinking, shouting. They are cowards, and they are doing it when it’s dark. It's intimidating staying here, and all the neighbours are having to put in cameras as a result. “I was in recovery from alcohol and I have started drinking again in the last two months because I am living in fear.

They continued: “I contacted the housing, the anti-social behaviour team and the police, but the vandals need to be caught red-handed for them to actually do anything when they are making everybody’s lives an absolute misery around here “The police and the council are committed to working closely together with our communities to tackle anti-social behaviour.“Given the nature of the incidents described, then these remain a matter for Police Scotland to investigate in the first instance. We must stress that members of the public should notify Police Scotland directly when incidents are occurring.”Inspector Steven Conn said: “We are acutely aware of the disruptive effect that antisocial behaviour has on any community.
