A Lanarkshire killer who battered a former policeman to death with his own baton has been returned to jail.

John Mackie was originally jailed for life in 2007 for beating Mike Mosey to death in Braehead, Lanarkshire. Mackie, 49, had his life sentence reduced to 13 years on appeal and was released on license in August last year. Just last month he vanished amid claims he had breached the terms of his parole and a manhunt ensued before he was found on September 4. He has now been returned to prison and will only be freed again when the Parole Board for Scotland deem it appropriate.The Parole Board for Scotland was contacted for comment.
