Lamborghini's first-ever top-level professional racing car is scheduled to make its racing debut at the 2024 24 Hours of Daytona.

Lamborghini's long-standing aversion to auto racing came to an end when it founded Squadra Corse in 2013. Nine years later, the brand has announced a much-anticipated plan toin 2024. Now, we have an idea of how that program will look.

Lamborghini has announced that its LMDh-spec car will be powered by a twin turbo V-8, joining both BMW and Porsche in choosing turbocharged eight-cylinder power. The company says the new engine will be developed directly by its Squadra Corse racing division and, like all other LMDh cars cars, will pare with an energy-recovery hybrid system to produce a combined 644-697 horsepower, depending on Balance of Performance.

As the LMDh category requires all cars to be built around an existing LMP2-class tub, Lamborghini has chosen to partner with Ligier to build the car. Additional carbon fiber elements will be produced by HP Composites, a current partner on the Squadra Corse-built Huracan GT3 and Super Trofeo cars. A teaser photo, our fifth look at a car built for the LMDh rule set that will make up half of the top class in both IMSA GTP and FIA WEC Hypercar, shows a unique set of LED running lights in an angular shape that fits Lamborghini's current design language.
