CEO Stephan Winkelmann is not interested in 'a sedan and small SUV,' but his brand is still working on potential future EVs.

Lamborghini axed plans for its all-electric Lanzador concept back in February, but a 2+2 grand tourer could still be in the cards. In a conversation with Road Track at the 12 Hours of Sebring on Saturday, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann said that the brand is still 'continuing to work on the EV idea,' saying that the company ' to be ready when the time comes but not before 2030.

' In the meantime, Lamborghini is expected to explore PHEVs and continue to sell its two newest hybrid supercars.Winkelmann also says that the brand has 'ruled out a sedan and small SUV' as possible new models for its lineup expansion. “What is missing is a grand touring car. A 2-door 2+2,” Winkelmann says. That certainly sounds like an internal combustion, or perhaps PHEV, car filling the luxury four-seater role initially expected to be served by the Lanzador EV concept.Lamborghini's current three-car series production lineup includes two hybrid supercars and one SUV, the Urus. Not only would a GT car slot directly into the wide gap between those two very different ideas of a performance car, it would also allow the Italian brand to compete directly with the likes of the Ferrari Roma, Bentley Continental Supersports, and Aston Martin DB12. Grand tourers were staples of the Lamborghini lineup in its early years, but the last GT to wear a bull badge rolled out of the company's factories in 1976.
