The Los Angeles Lakers have traded point guard D'Angelo Russell to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for forward Dorian Finney-Smith and Shake Milton.
The Los Angeles Lakers have made a trade to shore up their rotation. Los Angeles is sending point guard D'Angelo Russell, Maxwell Lewis, and three second-round draft picks to the Nets. In exchange, the team is landing forward Dorian Finney-Smith and Shake Milton. NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN reported the news. This is a blockbuster deal that helps shore up the Los Angeles rotation for the remainder of the season. Finney-Smith has long been a target of the Lakers and they finally land him.
Losing Russell hurts the Lakers backcourt but getting Milton back should help. Los Angeles has been looking to trade Russell for a while now and they finally pull the trigger. The veteran point guard was entering the final year of his contract with the team after he surprisingly picked up his player option this summer. Once that occurred, it was always likely that Russell wouldn't be on the team when the season ended. Finney-Smith is on the books for two seasons, including this current one. The wing is scheduled to make $14.9 million this season and holds a player option for next year at 15.3 million
