The late Los Angeles All-Star is being commemorated with three statues.
Hall of Fame Los Angeles Lakers superstar swingman Kobe Bryant has been commemorated twice over by Lakers ownership.The team unveiled its first of three intended bronze statues celebrating the 18-time All-Star shooting guard's life and legacy in a star-studded ceremony on February 8, 2024. The date of that initial unveiling was significant for Los Angeles fans, as Bryant wore jersey Nos. 8 and 24 during his 20-year NBA playing career.
A helicopter Bryant had commandeered for himself, his daughter, and six family friends from their home in Orange County, California, to Camarillo Airport in Ventura County crashed onto a hillside in Calabasas, killing all nine souls aboard, including pilot Ara Zobayan. They had been en route to a basketball game at Bryant's Thousand Oaks-based Mamba Sports Academy.
