The Los Angeles Lakers continue their offseason makeover with a trade for Charlotte Hornets center Mark Williams. They sent Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish, and draft picks to secure the young prospect.
The Los Angeles Lakers have made another significant move this week, acquiring 23-year-old center Mark Williams from the Charlotte Hornets . To finalize this trade, the Lakers sent promising rookie Dalton Knecht and Cam Reddish, along with a 2030 first-round draft pick and their 2031 first-round pick. This move frees up a roster spot for the team.
This recent agreement marks an unexpected transformation for the Lakers since December 29th, when they traded D’Angelo Russell for Dorian Finney-Smith. Since then, they have traded away star Anthony David, Max Christie, and their 2029 and 2031 first-round draft picks to acquire 25-year-old superstar Luka Doncic. Now, with Williams joining the team, it seems the Lakers are building a formidable lineup. Reports suggest David had expressed his desire to move on from his role as a center, and this may have also played a role in the Lakers' decision to trade him to the Dallas Mavericks for Doncic. In 22 games this season, Williams has averaged 16 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks in 25 minutes of playing time. However, back and ankle issues have limited his time on the court since entering the NBA. At 23 years old, standing at 7 feet tall and weighing 240 pounds, Williams is a center with whom J.J. Redick has previously worked, as the player was trained at Duke University.
