A seven-bedroom Georgian Colonial-style mansion in Lake Forest that late Medline Industries co-founder and former CEO James S. Mills and his late wife, Vicki, owned until their deaths is going on the market in March for about $5 million.
The mansion was built for real estate and zinc mining entrepreneur David Benton Jones, and it remained in his family for 67 years until 1962, when the estate of his daughter, Gwethalyn Jones, sold it to Robert O. Lehmann, who was a descendant of one of Chicago’s pioneer retail families. The Mills family bought the estate in 1977 and are only its third owners.
And the mansion was a showplace for all manner of things that Vicki Mills collected, including modern art, Jackson said. Vicki Mills was close with the late interior designer Richard Himmel, and “she loved everything that he did,” Jackson said. Jackson noted that her parents loved to entertain, holding sit-down dinners for 100 people at a time. Attendees were treated to a panoply of art, including bright colors and modern designs.
