Designed by midcentury modern architect John Black Lee, the one-story contemporary-style house on Bluffs Edge Drive is situated on the grounds of industrialist Cyrus Hall McCormick Jr.’s onetime 150-acre Walden estate, which before it was subdivided in the late 1950s contained a 50-room shingle-style mansion that had been designed in 1896 by architect Jarvis Hunt. That mansion was demolished in 1956.Built in 1960, the one-story contemporary-style house that just sold sits on 2.
Meanwhile, the home’s primary bedroom suite has large windows with lake views, a bathroom with a double vanity and a glass shower and a large walk-in closet.Among the house’s biggest draws are its outdoor features. It is situated on a bluff, with 265 feet of Lake Michigan frontage. The property also contains the McCormick estate’s original balustrade and pergola, known as Ravello after a hilltop community in Italy.
The sellers paid $2.1 million in 2011 for the home. They first listed it in September for $5.99 million, and they went under contract to sell it just a week later.Listing agent Elizabeth Wieneke did not respond to requests for comment.for more luxury listings and real estate news.
