The Lake Erie walleye and steelhead trout fishing has been best in the deeper waters off the Northeast Ohio shoreline in recent weeks. Trolling diving planers and spoons or diving plugs have been a top combination for success. CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Lake Erie Walleye Trail will wrap up its season Sept. 29-30, heading to the Northeast Ohio walleye hot spot of Fairport Harbor, and the B’Laster Lake Erie Fall Brawl will be right behind. The Fall Brawl is being held on the U.S.
Bay’s Edge Bait & Tackle in Port Clinton will make its debut this year as a weigh station, and will have a Fall Brawl Sign-up Party on Saturday from 1-4 p.m. featuring food and drinks. Wire line and diving planers are popular with the local fishing guides for trolling deep-diving plugs, especially Bandits, and medium-sized spoons. Lure colors have not been been critical, but make sure lures are swimming along just above where sonar units are marking schools of big fish.
