Early voting expanded this week to 18 locations throughout Lake County from just one in downtown Waukegan, giving voters a variety of opportunities to vote ahead of the June 28 primary where major party nominees will be chosen for the Nov. 8 general election.
As of 1 p.m. Monday, Lake County Clerk Robin O’Connor said 632 people had voted. Gurnee Village Hall had the most with 564. There were 43 ballots cast at the Highland Park Public Library as of 1 p.m. and 28 by 2 p.m. at Lake Forest City Hall, according to officials there.
“I wanted to check it off my to-do list,” Spirito said. “Now I can try to tune out all the commercials that don’t have to do with November. I’m concerned about the fiscal situation in Illinois.” John Powers of Lake Forest said he was nearby City Hall and thought the line would be short. Though he did not indicate whether he took a Democratic or Republican ballot, he said the contest for governor of Illinois is the most important one.“People can decide if they like what Gov. Pritzker is doing, or if they want a change of direction,” he said.
“As the next two weeks progress, we’ll have a better idea,” O’Connor said referring to the change in dates. “It’s summer. The weather is better. Maybe more people will turn out on Election Day.”
