CLEVELAND, Ohio — Lake-effect snow could kick in this afternoon in parts of the snow belt east of Cleveland. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Lake and Ashtabula counties which takes effect at 4 p.m. today, with forecasts calling for 3 to 5 inches of snow by 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Communities that likely will see snow include Mentor, Willoughby, Eastlake, Painesville, Willowick, Wickliffe, Jefferson, Orwell, Andover, Roaming Shores, Ashtabula, Conneaut, and Geneva. The highest snow accumulations are expected in northeast Lake County and the northern section of Ashtabula County.

The snow comes as temperatures are expected to plummet today in Northeast Ohio. Highs are expected to stay around 20 degrees today and overnight lows will be in the single digits. Wind chills will make it feel like temperatures are below zero.Euclid City Schools and Canton Local Schools have canceled classes for today, but most major districts in Northeast Ohio remain open. Some school districts in central Ohio have canceled classes today or have delays.
