Lady Gaga's new song for the Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack makes Goose's death in the first film even more emotional. Top Gun: Maverick is the first sequel to the massive hit, which continues to be an endearing classic of the genre since its initial release.
Released in 1986 and directed by Tony Scott, the first Top Gun focused on Tom Cruise's Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell, an F-14 fighter pilot who goes to The United States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program, aka Top Gun, with his partner, Nick 'Goose' Bradshaw, played be Anthony Edwards. In the film, Goose is killed when he and Maverick eject from their aircraft, which Maverick harbors tremendous guilt over, especially since he knew Goose's wife and kids.
The music from the original Top Gun is deeply ingrained in the film, from the songs to the score, which is likely why it continues to be listened to and referenced today. Gaga is a tremendously talented musician, and having her on the Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack feels like a great fit for the franchise.
