Lada has taken the wraps off a special edition of its Iskra sedan, built for the thrills of ice racing. This performance-oriented version boasts a powerful engine, upgraded suspension, and safety features tailored for the demanding conditions of icy tracks.
Lada unveiled a specially modified version of its Iskra sedan, specifically designed for ice racing. This competition-ready sedan boasts a powerful 1.8-liter engine that generates 173 horsepower. The vehicle benefits from several key enhancements, including a stiffer suspension system, a roll cage for safety, and stronger rear brakes to handle the demands of ice racing.
While the all-new Lada Iskra is yet to enter series production, Lada has wasted no time in developing a motorsport-focused iteration. This Russian sedan has been meticulously tuned to excel in ice racing events, featuring an upgraded engine with increased power and a more robust chassis setup.Visually, the Lada Iskra retains its standard bodykit, eschewing elaborate aerodynamic components. The only noticeable changes are the new wheels equipped with studded tires and the distinctive racing livery. The livery proudly displays the logo of the Lada Sport Rosneft factory team, accompanied by a vibrant combination of yellow, orange, red, and black graphics.Inside the cabin, you'll find a roll cage and a multifunctional electronic control panel conveniently mounted on the steering column. Lada has hinted at weight-saving measures, suggesting that the rear seats, along with most (if not all) comfort features, have been removed. More significant changes occur under the hood. The sedan is powered by a modified version of the 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. A new crankshaft increases its displacement to 1.8 liters. The engine also benefits from reinforced connecting rods, upgraded intake and exhaust systems, and a recalibrated ECU. These modifications result in an impressive 173 horsepower (129 kW / 175 PS) and 200 Nm (148 lb-ft) of torque, a substantial increase from the 105 hp (78 kW / 106 PS) of its road-going counterpart. Power is transmitted to the front wheels through a transmission featuring a sequential gear shift mechanism. Additionally, a self-locking differential has been incorporated for enhanced traction on slippery surfaces. The suspension has undergone significant upgrades with new shocks, stiffer springs, reinforced attachment points, and spherical joints replacing the standard block-type mounts. While the sedan retains its stock brakes at the front, it receives stronger rear brakes sourced from the Vesta, along with a hydraulic handbrake. It is important to note that the Lada Iskra is based on a localized version of the CMF-B architecture, which is shared by several models from Renault, Nissan, and Dacia, including the similarly-sized Dacia Logan. However, there has been no involvement from the Renault Group during its development, which took place after the French company severed ties with Lada due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The official debut of the competition-only version of this compact sedan is scheduled for January 25th at the 27th Race of Champions, held in the Samara region of Russia. Lada is expected to release more images of the sporty Iskra during this event. As for the road-going model, its market launch in Russia is anticipated sometime in the coming months.
