A new independent review commissioned by Britain’s National Health Service (NHS) reveals a lack of research and weak evidence on medical interventions in gender care for children and young people under 18. The review emphasizes the need for high standards of care and research in gender-care services.

Earlier this week, pediatrician Hilary Cass published a new independent review commissioned by Britain’s National Health Service of gender-identity services for children and young people under 18. Cass’s review found that children have been let down by a lack of research and “remarkably weak” evidence on medical interventions in gender care .

” The review also highlights the “toxic” nature of the debate surrounding gender-affirming care in youth, and the toll it takes on children. “What’s unfortunately happened for these young people is that because of the toxicity of the debate, they’ve often been bypassed by local services who’ve been really nervous about seeing them,” Cass told the BBC.
