A sequel to the cult classic Labyrinth is officially in development, less than two weeks after the passing of David Bowie. The Hollywood Reporter first revealed the news, which Entertainment Weekly later confirmed. The project will follow the original 1986 film, not be a reboot. Sony TriStar has partnered with The Jim Henson Company for production, and Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman is attached to the project.

The original was an unusual affair, starring David Bowie as a Jareth the Goblin King, a terrifying yet seductive manifestation of a young teenage girl's sexual desires. Bowie — who memorably fills the role not only with his distinctive looks, but also his grand musical style — steals the teen's younger brother, setting the trippy, puppet-filled journey in action.
