According to Redbridge Group director Kos Samaras, the state government should “consider putting this project on ice”. The Labor pollster, who served as the ALP’s deputy campaign director when the project was announced, said in 2018 voters viewed the SRL as a “great announcement” which could help them get to work, but attitudes had now cooled.
Mr Samaras said the Melburnians who still went in to work every day were now more likely to be “car reliant” and would prefer the government spend money on roads.
