Three Labor MPs breaking ranks and voicing their concerns about the AUKUS deal “shatters consensus” within the party on whether it is the best way to move forward, according to Sky News Senior Political Reporter Trudy McIntosh.
Labor MPs Josh Wilson, Libby Coker, and Michelle Ananda-Rajah have all raised concerns over the impact of the massive spending on the submarines on other government services and the implications on national sovereignty.
“Paul Keating’s intervention at the National Press Club last week can’t be underestimated,” Ms McIntosh said. “That is the impotence that emboldens these MPs to be able to speak publicly and privately and able to raise their concerns.”
