Weather conditions have improved for the city of Los Angeles, as firefighters make progress in containing the blazes. As of Thursday, there has been 'little to no fire growth' to the wildfires in the last 24 hours, except for the Palisades Fire, where a few interior pockets continue to burn.
Firefighters said there has been 'tremendous success' in containing wildfires during a Wednesday news conference, however they continue to caution residents to remain vigilant as weather patterns remain unpredictable. 'We've had tremendous success in extinguishing the overall fire,' said Los Angeles Fire Department Assistant Chief Joe Everett. 'as you also heard from our weather expert, we're still in a weather pattern right now. So, we ask you to stay vigilant.' Authorities say that the real issue is smoldering hot spots that can burn into the root systems of trees and bushes causing fires to linger. While strong winds, which caused wildfires to spread have weakened, forecasters warn that another round of Santa Ana winds are expected to pick back up early next week. Residents of Los Angeles who were forced to evacuate, are still unable to return to their homes for at least another week. 'We continue to plan for the repopulation of evacuated areas when safe,' LA County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone said during Thursday’s press conference.
