Los Angeles' water chief, Janisse Quiñones, is facing criticism for her role in the city's devastating wildfires. Firefighters allege that broken fire hydrants and the disconnection of a crucial reservoir exacerbated the blazes, leaving them with insufficient water. Quiñones' past employment at PG&E, a utility company responsible for numerous California wildfires, further fuels the controversy.
The Daily Mail reports the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power CEO Janisse Quiñones was hired by Mayor Karen Bass on a $750,000 salary in May.
Quiñones reportedly oversaw the emptying of the Santa Ynez Reservoir in the Pacific Palisades area during bushfire season, sources told the outlet. An LAFD source told The Daily Mail that DWP officials said "Had it not been closed they probably would have been okay and had enough water for the fire."
