Sophomore clocks a time of 11:04 to win Division 1's 2-mile race, RB's Camden Luecht wins boys' race
Heading into her first cross country race a year ago, La Jolla High School’s Chiara Dailey had no idea what to expect. She had never run a cross country meet or any race before her freshman year.
She even found tracks in Australia and New Zealand where she vacationed for three weeks on which to train, so getting in a real race was to gauge not only her opposition — which here included state Division I champion Tessa Buswell of Poway — but how she herself felt. “I live on this course, so I know it well,” said Luecht. “I’ve run against Omar a lot with mixed results, but I knew he ran 9:49 a year ago and figured if I ran with him I’d break 10 minutes.
