The LA Galaxy and LAFC have unveiled their 2025 Major League Soccer schedules, setting the stage for another intense season of competition in Southern California.
The Los Angeles teams LA Galaxy and LAFC unveiled their 2025 Major League Soccer ( MLS) season schedules on Thursday, anticipating a series of matches that promise to intensify the rivalry in Southern California. The six-time MLS champion and reigning monarch, LA Galaxy, will kick off their season on Sunday, February 23, facing debutant San Diego FC at the partially renovated Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson.
The 21-year-old stadium is undergoing a renovation process that began after the 2024 season finale and will continue until 2027. The Galaxy will seek to maintain their stronghold as home team, following an undefeated 2024 home season with 17 wins and four draws during the campaign, including the playoffs. In the July 4th game, they fell to LAFC while celebrating the encounter at their former stadium, the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Among the most anticipated matches, LA Galaxy will face the New York Red Bulls in an MLS Cup rematch on May 10. Furthermore, clashes against their city rival, LAFC, are scheduled for May 18 in Carson and July 19 at BMO Stadium. Since the start of their rivalry in 2018, LA Galaxy and LAFC have played 23 official regular season matches. Both teams have won 9 games each, while 5 matches have ended in a draw, reflecting a balanced competition in the so-called “El Tráfico”. LAFC, the current US Open Cup champion, will begin its eighth season on Saturday, February 22, at home against Minnesota United. The team will face San Diego FC for the first time on March 29. Both clubs will participate in international tournaments during the season. LA Galaxy will compete in the Concacaf Champions Cup, facing the winner between Real Salt Lake and C.S. Herediano in the Round of 16
