Un profesor de la UCLA visitó el desierto para recoger fotos, objetos abandonados y otros soportes para la exposición, que califica de testimonio de la calamidad actual en la frontera.
Al viajar por el desierto a lo largo de la frontera entre Estados Unidos y México, muchos inmigrantes saben que deben estar preparados para sobrevivir, e incluso para morir.
La exposición multimedia, que se inauguró el 17 de septiembre y estará abierta hasta julio, recoge los viajes y testimonios de los inmigrantes que intentan cruzar este peligroso tramo, a través de testimonios, películas y fotografías, objetos abandonados y otros materiales. “Se habla mucho de la seguridad fronteriza y el tema se polariza, se vuelve político, y sin embargo nadie entiende realmente lo que ocurre en ese lugar”, dijo De León.Un giro crucial en la política de inmigración de Estados Unidos se produjo en 1994, cuando la Patrulla Fronteriza de Estados Unidos implementó formalmente la estrategia de aplicación de la ley de inmigración conocida como “Prevención a través de la disuasión”.
Wells dijo que uno de los atributos más impresionantes de la exposición es su variado contenido. Incluye no sólo fotografías, sino también vídeos grabados con drones de los diferentes entornos que los migrantes deben superar para llegar a Estados Unidos.
