The new fatalities gave the county a cumulative death toll of 35,281 since the pandemic began.
The county also reported 2,946 new COVID-19 cases over the four-day period, raising the overall total to 3,676,266.
The daily case numbers DPH releases are undercounts of actual virus activity because of how many people use at-home tests and don’t report the results — or don’t test at all. There were 705 COVID-19-positive patients in Los Angeles County hospitals as of Tuesday, up slightly from 640 on Saturday, according to state figures. Of those patients, 72 were being treated in intensive care units.
The seven-day average daily rate of people testing positive for the virus in the county was 5.6% as of Tuesday, roughly the same rate as the past week.
