When Angel City Football Club stepped onto the field in late April, they let the world know of their goal to level it.
Under the lights, in front of a recently sold-out Banc of California crowd, Los Angeles' newest professional team celebrated its first home game, home goals and home win.
"Three female founders, a majority female ownership group, a majority female team," said Angel City FC president and co-founder Julie Uhrman. "The goal was to sell out," Uhrman said."The goal was to build an experience that's never been done before in L.A., and to deliver an experience for our players that they deserve."
In this new chapter, Uhrman and her co-founders at Angel City want to prove that doing good, can also be good business.They've created a fund to help launch new careers for players once soccer ends. One percent of the money made from ticket sales this season will go into a pool, which their athletes will split evenly at the end of the year. The players just have to promote the club on social media.
