The to-and-fro trend between the DA and IFP is set to continue throughout the day as voting stations are counted.

The opposition race between the Inkatha Freedom Party and the Democratic Alliance in the hotly contested province of KwaZulu-Natal was still too close to call by Friday morning.

By 10am, the numbers had again changed to 17% support for the IFP and just under 15% support for the DA. The ANC was on 53%. This was on 70% of votes captured.Importantly, a large portion of votes from the eThekwini metro still had to be counted.Voting tallies from the AbaQulusi were also still outstanding, where the IFP and DA have support.

The party – always led by its now 90-year-old founder Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi – continued to register declines in the 2009 and 2014 national elections, with its provincial support in 2014 reaching just under the 11% mark.
