KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi hailed the hard work of the province's police service.
The KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, awarded members who have excelled in the execution of their duties at the SAPS Awards ceremony in Durban on November 1, 2024.The awards recognise the work of officers who have displayed exceptional service and bravery in often dangerous circumstances.
Mkhwanazi says recognition should go to police officers who work tirelessly to keep communities safe. He says, “Policing the province of KwaZulu-Natal is a big challenge. One day can be a total havoc and the following day all absolute harmony, quiet. Multiple crime scenes a day are no longer a surprise in this province. The murder of one person hardly makes the news. We are so used to multiple murders, so we ignore one person’s death. Not, of course, he’s a famous person. The number of violent crime incidents that this province experience are enough to send chills down the spine.
Mkhwanazi, however, highlighted with concern the growing number of mass murders reported in the province. He says, “A total of 151 mass murder incidents where two or more people were killed in one incident were recorded in the province of KwaZulu-Natal during the year under review. Three-hundred and eighty people were murdered in those incidents and police were successful in arresting sixty-seven suspects.
