Those who fail to adhere to measures put in place to protect pupils who attend school during the Covid-19 pandemic will be harshly dealt with by the province, KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC Kwazi Mshengu said on Wednesday.

Mshengu was speaking to a handful of journalists before he went into a meeting with other MECs in Mayville, Durban. Mshengu said that schools would be cleaned daily, as mandated by the national Basic Education Department. He said School Governing Bodies would assume this responsibility. Mshengu said more than 400 schools have been vandalised in KZN during the national lockdown. This, he said, put further strain on the already tightened education budget.
