In a memorandum, the embattled department says it has approached the provincial treasury to negotiate the release of outstanding school allocations that have not yet been released.
This comes after the IFP revealed last week that many Section 21 schools have not yet received funds.Section 21 schools are allocated finances by the department, which go towards ordering stationery, and textbooks, paying water and lights accounts and undertaking their own maintenance. The KZN Department of Education's Muzi Mahlambi says they are working around the clock to get the funds released to schools.
"It was due to system failure in terms of having glitches when we are uploading and being ready to pay our schools. As of 23 May schools are going to be started to get paid their allocation."
