A new civic organisation that promises to hold political parties accountable to KwaZulu-Natal citizens was launched in Durban on Saturday. | WitnessKZN
Called uMsinsi Wokuzimilela, the organisation was created by a group of citizens who felt political parties were not attending to their needs.
“As things stand people vote for a political party on the basis of promises made to them by politicians. Dube, who is a senior researcher at the Xubera Institute for Research and Development, said the poor were the biggest voting bloc in the province yet their interests were not being served by political parties.
“Once they are in power politicians simply turn their back on the poor, only to re emerge in the next elections to make further promises,” he said. While Dube assisted the community in terms of research and policy formulation, he said he was not part of uMsinsi Wokuzimilela.
