Kyrie Irving Not Currently In Long-Term Plans Of Lakers - RealGM Wiretap
While the Los Angeles Lakers seriously pursued ways of acquiring Kyrie Irving this past offseason in both July and August, a deal was unable to be consummated.
Irving exercised his $36.9 million player option with the Brooklyn Nets in late June. Brooklyn shut the door on an Irving trade as they resolved Kevin Durant's trade request. Irving will be a free agent next offseason, but sources tell The Athletic that he is not currently park of the long-term plans of the Lakers. The Lakers were widely considered the only team with serious interest in Irving this past offseason.
The Lakers will have non-max cap space this coming offseason after signing LeBron James to an extension.
