The league’s 2 p.m. trade deadline came and went without any more splashes in Dallas.
Starting guard Tim Hardaway Jr. and centerserved as the two players the Mavericks most wanted to include in another move before the deadline, people familiar with the team’s approach said, but their inability to swing a deal underscored their waning value around the league.
Though Mavericks’ lack of public activity as a flurry of moves unfolded around the league in the final hours might’ve felt like an anticlimactic to the franchise’s trade season, the team’s abrupt decision Sunday to go all-in with Irving will ensure the remainder of this season contains no shortage of intrigue.
