Last night in Brooklyn, stars and fashion industry friends gathered to fête the opening of "." The evening celebrated the exhibition's arrival at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, marking its global debut in the United States. Viewed by over one million visitors in Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, and France since its initial launch in 2019, the exhibition concludes its grand tour in New York's largest borough.
“I’m so excited to bring ‘Couturissime’ to Brooklyn,” says Casey Cadwallader, creative director of the Mugler show. “The exhibition is a vibrant journey through Manfred Thierry Mugler’s vision and legacy. A true creative running in his own lane, everything he touched, from silhouettes and craft to casting and fragrance, was different. He was always true to himself because it was the only way he knew how to be.
The downpour of rain and gusting wind couldn’t stop partygoers from dressing in an ode to the late Manfred Thierry Mugler himself—think high-voltage heroine ensembles. Guests entered the museum, riding the elevator to the 5th floor, and sometimes barely fitting their supervixen garments in the lift.
“Always ahead of his time, Manfred Thierry Mugler built a world blending fantasy, extravagance, and experimentation. I also see Mugler as a troublemaker and a sculptor of fantasies, who never had enough extravagances. Mugler used to say,,” said Danièle Lahana-Aidenbaum, Mugler fashion and fragrance global president.” Presentingin New York City is the culmination of the dream we had seven years ago when we began to imagine the biggest exhibition ever dedicated to the artist and the brand.
Attendees included Mugler creative director Casey Cadwallader and global president of Mugler fashion and fragrances, Danièle Lahana-Aidenbaum alongside guests Kylie Jenner, Lourdes Leon, Laverne Cox, Rowan Blanchard, Julia Fox, Marc Jacobs, Tinashe, Jackson Wiederhoeft, Tyler Mitchell and more. The evening's festivities kicked off two floors below. The night’s entertainment lineup was curated by a close friend to Mugler and mother of the underground club scene, Susanne Bartsch.
