Kyle Freeland will start April 8’s home and season opener against the Dodgers in LoDo, GM Bill Schmidt announced on Friday night. It’s the southpaw’s second opening day start, as he also got the call in 2017, allowing one run over seven innings in a road win against the Marlins. Freeland, 28, has posted a 4.33 ERA in consecutive seasons after bombing in 2019 and dominating in 2018 . This year, Colorado is hoping for more of the 2018 consistency from Freeland, who held the Mariners to one unearned run in five-plus innings in his last Cactus League start.
