(UPDATE) THE government of Kuwait has stopped issuing new entry visas to Filipinos, citing the Philippines' supposed failure to comply with a labor agreement between the two countries, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported on Friday.

The Kuwait's interior ministry did not specify the particular section in the agreement that the Philippines has violated, the DFA said.In a short statement, the DFA said the suspension of visa issuance would be effective immediately and will be in force until 'further notice.'The DFA said it hopes the issue would be settled amicably.'...

The incident prompted Philippine senators to review the more recent bilateral labor agreement between the two countries, which promotes the rights of OFWs, signed in 2018 after the death of OFW Joanna Demafelis.Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega said in a radio interview on Friday that they are considering lifting the deployment ban, but will have to discuss it first with other concerned government agencies.There are 268,000 Filipinos living and working in Kuwait.
