The Niners’ Week 2 game carries serious weight for Trey Lance and company.
SANTA CLARA — The 49ers’ showdown with the Seahawks on Sunday is not a must-win gameBut that doesn’t mean there aren’t stakes to the contest. What’s the difference? Where’s the semantic separation? The Niners see themselves as a Super Bowl-caliber team. It was a belief put forward, ad-nauseam, by the team’s players and coaches in the preseason — and it wasn’t just lip service.
Now, they’re touchdown favorites again this week against a Seahawks team that, despite their 1-0 record, isn’t very good, either. But a 0-2 record would kill off the benefit of the doubt the Niners were granted by so many fans, media, and myself coming into the season.
