Kulula and British Airways flights remain grounded after Comair's operator certificate was suspended due to safety and security risks yesterday - here's the latest from the SA Civil Aviation Authority and the airline company
Its operator, Comair, had its air operator certificate suspended for 24 hours on Saturday morning. The suspension is now indefinite pending the airline company’s compliance.FlySafair continues to dominate the skies, stays a head above the rest in tough aviation market“The suspension follows the visit by the SACAA to the Operator to investigate and determine the cause of a spate of occurrences affecting a concerning number of flights operated by Kulula.com and BA Comair.
Four findings were made against Comair, three of which pose an immediate risk to safety and security and must be closed with immediate effect. The final finding must be closed within seven days.The SACAA has dedicated a full team to ensure the operator gets back in the air. The team is assigned to assess and review the evidence as it gets submitted.
“The commitment to safety, in this case, supersedes any other need and this is to ensure that South Africa maintains its safety record of having zero fatal airline accidents in over 30 years on South African soil. The lives of our aviation personnel and the users of civil aviation services is paramount, and it is a responsibility the Regulator does not take lightly,” it said.
I was advised of the decision taken by the SACAA to suspend the air operator certificate of Comair as a precautionary measure.
