Kroger and its U.K. technology partner Ocado are opening a 350,000-square-foot automated fulfillment center for online grocery orders in Dallas this summer. The automated facility feeds a hub and spoke system of delivery, allowing Kroger employees to make deliveries to a huge geographic area.Kroger has started hiring for its new $55 million automated online grocery fulfillment center in southern Dallas.
The 350,000-square-foot facility has been under construction with Kroger’s technology partner and U.K.-based online grocer Ocado for the last two years. It’s on 55 acres south of Interstate 20 at the northwest corner of Telephone and Bonnie View roads. Kroger has plans to start shipping groceries this summer from the Dallas facility to customers around Dallas-Fort Worth and from hub operations that it’s building inand Oklahoma City. Kroger said it’s hiring 161 people for each of the hubs that will receive customers’ orders from Dallas.
Kroger said so far it plans to hire 100 drivers and people with logistics and human resources experience for the Dallas fulfillment center. The hiring event Saturday is co-hosted by Dallas City Council member Tennell Atkins at the Highland Hills library at 6200 Bonnie View Road from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The city provided Kroger with
