A RESET often brings to mind words such as revitalisation, rejuvenation, reinvigoration, renewal, resuscitation, reawakening, resurrection, and many more. All these words can aptly be applied on the state of city landscape which has aged considerably over the last several decades.

Most senior KK city folks may still remember the good old days in the 1980s when landscaping started to evolve albeit in a slow-motion manner. Nevertheless, it continued, and the rest is history.

There are so many advantages and benefits that are associated with beautiful landscapes, but as the story is too long, it may only be told on another Sunday page. Therefore, it is time to consider altering some spots or adding some new ideas within the picturesque frame without having to cause massive disruptions to the existing landscape.

What I would like to share with readers today is regarding floral tunnels or archways. These are colourful, shady and attractive structures that are perfect for lazing under. The effort may result in a win-win-win situation for all parties, namely, the agency, the general public and the overall city image.

It may also develop into a symbol of the city in future that may someday equal in popularity to the Moai sculptures on Easter Island in Eastern Polynesia, the Taj Mahal of India, or the Great Wall Of China.Although floral archways are easy to begin, they need quite some physical tweaking, twisting and turning along the road to success, plus proper horticultural maintenance during the early stages of growth to ensure that the desired form of archway is achieved.

Plants along rows are usually set at 2.0 metres apart, or less if rapid or thicker coverage is intended, with the opposite row being at a distance of about 3.0 metres to allow for a wider walkway. The height of the archway at its apex may be set at 3.0 metres to allow for the possibility of putting up a waterproofed roofing.
