You may know Kool & the Gang for its R&B and disco hits -- 'Celebration,' 'Jungle Boogie,' 'Ladies Night,' to name a few -- but the group has shared stages with the likes of Van Halen, Foreigner, Rod Stewart, Elton John and more. And it's worked.
Robert "Kool" Bell, the sole surviving original member of Kool & the Gang, the legendary funk, soul and R&B group that will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Oct. 19 in Cleveland.
The group is among the performers being inducted into the Rock Hall, after appearing on the nominating ballot for the first time earlier this year. It comes on the occasion of the band’s 60th anniversary -- although it didn’t adopt its current moniker until 1969 -- and while the group is known for R&B and pop chart hits, being part of the Rock Hall makes all the sense in the world to bassist and co-founder Robert “Kool” Bell.
